A home that is stick-built is constructed on the actual building site, piece by piece. Typically exterior walls are 2×6 framing while interior walls are constructed of 2×4’s. Wall sheating is typically placed on the exterior of the studs to give it strength and rigidity. Manufactured and modular homes are not classified as stick-built because they are made mostly in the factory and then transported to the site. A custom home may be stick-built, provided that they are constructed on the land where they will remain. This is also known as site built construction. This type of construction is very typical for a custom home, however there are many combination of systems which may be used with the stick built system including a trussed roof.
